LAURELHURST NEIGHBORHOOD EMERGENCY TEAM (LNET)

Laurelhurst Neighborhood Emergency Team is also known as LNET.

Who and What are NETs?

We are Portland residents trained by PBEM and Portland Fire & Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods. NET members are trained to save lives and property until professional responders can arrive. These volunteers are specially trained to help others without putting themselves in harm’s way. NET members are:

  • Prepared to be self-sufficient for two weeks during any emergency.

  • Able to provide emergency assistance to their family and immediate neighbors.

  • Able to work within an emergency response team to save lives and property in their neighborhood.

  • Able to guide untrained volunteers who want to help others during a disaster.

Laurelhurst Neighborhood Emergency Team (LNET) is the oldest continuous NET team in Portland. In our current situation PBEM has asked the NET teams to share with their communities that the following website has the best current information on the CoronaVirus.  https://multco.us/novel-coronavirus-covid-19/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-faq

When a crisis strikes a community, many people are more than willing to volunteer wherever and however they can. That has been demonstrated by the excellent response to the Laurelhurst Neighbor2Neighbor (LN2N) campaign. Many of you have replied to the webform and have offered assistance to your neighbors.

Becoming An Active Block

Prior to the pandemic a number of your neighbors organized their blocks into Active Blocks which are cohesive groups that will assist each other when a major catastrophic event occurs.  In most cases LNET representatives attended one of those block meetings to share ideas and what resources are available and how neighbors can look out for each other.

Once we get back to a more normal way of life, LNET invites you to organize your block whether that is ten houses or 2 dozen.  That means someone on the block needs to start the process by meeting your neighbors, collecting emails and deciding on a day to have a get-together.  Once that is arranged, contact LNET and we will send one or two NET members to your meeting to share information.

For those of you who see this as a good time to organize your block- please contact us and we can set up a Zoom meeting to get you started.

Connecting with your LNET

LNET is considering holding a virtual meeting for anyone who would like to ask questions or learn more about both personal and community preparedness.  If you would like to receive information about upcoming meetings please contact LNET.
